ABOUT MILETUS
Miletus (Greek: Μῑ́λητος; Turkish: Milet) was an ancient Greek city on the western coast of Anatolia near the mouth of the Maeander River in ancient Caria, whose ruins lie near the modern village of Balat in Aydın Province, Turkey. Before the Persian invasion in the mid-6th century BC, Miletus was considered among the greatest and wealthiest Greek cities. Resettled extensively by Ionian Greeks from around 1000 BC, it became a cradle of early Greek philosophy, art, and science during the Archaic Period.
