ABOUT TELMESSOS
Telmessos (also Telmessus, later Anastasiopolis, then Makri) was the largest city in ancient Lycia, near the Carian border. Its well-protected harbor was separated from the Gulf of Telmessos by an island. Called Telebehi in the Lycian language, the city was a critical maritime hub for the region. The modern town on the ancient site is Fethiye, today one of Turkey's most popular Aegean resort destinations.
