ABOUT PRIENE

Priene (Ancient Greek: Πριήνη) was an ancient Greek city of Ionia and a member of the Ionian League, located at the base of an escarpment of Mycale, some 6 km north of what was then the Maeander River. Built on steep slopes and terraces rising from sea level to 380 meters, it overlooked the former Latmian Gulf. Due to river siltation filling the bay over centuries, it is now an inland site near the modern village of Güllübahçe Turun in the Söke district of Aydın Province, Turkey.
