ABOUT PHILADELPHIA

Alaşehir, known in antiquity as Philadelphia (Greek: "the city of him who loves his brother"), is a town in Manisa Province in the Aegean region of Turkey. Founded in 189 BC by King Eumenes II of Pergamon and named for the loyalty of his brother Attalus II — nicknamed "Philadelphos" — the city became a major center of Orthodox Christianity. It is perhaps best known as the site of one of the seven churches of Asia described in the Book of Revelation.
