ABOUT MYRA
Myra (Ancient Greek: Μύρα) was an ancient Greek city in Lycia, now the small town of Demre in Antalya Province, Turkey. One of the largest cities of the Lycian League, it was founded on the river Myros in the fertile alluvial plain between Alaca Dağ, the Massikytos range, and the Mediterranean Sea. In the Roman period, Myra was one of the principal cities of Lycia. One of its early bishops was Saint Nicholas — born in the nearby city of Patara — whose church in Myra remains a pilgrimage site to this day.
